Mekeni

Founded by Joanna Tregonning, Mekeni is a deeply personal expression of her Filipino heritage and the memories that connect people to home. The name comes from “mekeni,” a Kapampangan expression meaning “come here,” chosen as a gesture of welcome and an invitation to gather, reconnect, and remember where we come from. For Joanna, fragrance became a way to explore the experience of the Filipino diaspora and the ties to family and culture that remain even when home may be thousands of miles away.

Joanna is both founder and perfumer. She studied perfumery through Mandy Aftel's program and the Institute for Art and Olfaction, and continues her education under the mentorship of perfumer Yosh Han of Eau de Yosh. Before creating Mekeni, Joanna founded SIXVINGT, an award-recognized solid perfume house, but eventually wanted to create something that spoke more directly to her own heritage and personal story.

Mekeni's debut Pamilya Collection turns distinctly Filipino memories into fragrance through scents such as Pandan Sampaguita, Salty Ube, Polvoron, and Tricycle Smoke. From traditional desserts and family gatherings to flowers and the smoky movement of everyday city life, the collection celebrates both the beauty and complexity of Filipino identity. At its heart, Mekeni is about belonging, creating fragrances that can transport you back to a person, a place, a childhood memory, or simply the feeling of being home.
