Paraphrase Perfume was founded by Joshua Smith, a self-taught perfumer and former forester who approaches fragrance as a form of emotional exploration rather than decoration. What began as an experiment in scent became a philosophy: perfume is not just something you wear—it’s something you experience slowly.

Hand-blended, bottled, and labeled in Canada, Paraphrase fragrances are intentionally created in small batches using high-quality materials. The brand embraces a slower, more mindful approach to scent, encouraging wearers to reconnect with their senses and notice the subtle details often overlooked in everyday life.

Rather than building fragrances around traditional categories or mass appeal, Paraphrase focuses on feeling—hazy daydreams, quiet introspection, and the contradictions of being human. Each scent is unisex, vegan, and designed to feel like a personal narrative unfolding on the skin.
