Founded in Paris in 1975 by acclaimed perfumer Yuri Gutsatz, Le Jardin Retrouvé was one of the very first independent niche perfume houses in history. Frustrated by the growing influence of marketing within the fragrance industry, Yuri rejected traditional commercial constraints in pursuit of artistic freedom, exceptional raw materials, and emotionally driven perfumery.
A poet, visionary, and founding figure in modern niche perfumery, Yuri also played an important role in the creation of the Osmothèque, the world’s largest perfume archive. His fragrances became known for their delicacy, sophistication, and intimate connection to nature and travel.
After the house entered a dormant period following Yuri’s passing, the brand was lovingly revived in 2017 by his son Michel Gutsatz and artist Clara Feder, who relaunched Le Jardin Retrouvé with a renewed focus on sustainability, well-being, and preserving Yuri’s original artistic vision. Working alongside perfumer Maxence Moutte, the family carefully reconstructed many of Yuri’s historical formulas while maintaining relationships with his original suppliers whenever possible.
Today, Le Jardin Retrouvé remains a rare example of true family-run haute parfumerie—where fragrance is approached not as trend or status, but as a source of comfort, poetry, and emotional connection. Inspired by the symbolic idea of the garden as a place of beauty, calm, and reflection, each scent feels timeless, elegant, and deeply human.
