Clive Christian

Clive Christian is the British designer and entrepreneur behind Clive Christian Perfume, a luxury fragrance house revived in 1999 after he acquired the historic Crown Perfumery Company, originally founded in 1872.

The Crown Perfumery was once granted permission by Queen Victoria to use the royal crown on its bottles, a symbol that remains part of the brand’s identity today. Drawing on his background in luxury interior design and a lifelong fascination with scent, Clive Christian reimagined the house with a modern vision, elevating British perfumery through exceptional craftsmanship, rich concentrations, and uncompromising attention to detail.

Under his leadership, the house became known for iconic collections such as 1872, X, and No. 1, fragrances celebrated for their complexity, opulence, and use of rare ingredients. Clive Christian’s work helped redefine contemporary luxury fragrance, blending historic prestige with modern artistry. His influence on the luxury industry was formally recognized in 2012 when he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). Though ownership has since transitioned, the brand continues to reflect his original vision — one rooted in heritage, excellence, and the belief that perfume should be nothing short of extraordinary.
